The Healthy Kids Program

Children participating in the department's Medical Assistance or All Kids Program (Assist, Share and Premium) are encouraged to receive preventive and comprehensive health services designed to provide early discovery and treatment of health problems. Commonly known as Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnosis and Treatment (EPSDT), the preventive (well child visit) component of the program in Illinois is referred to as Healthy Kids. Services provided to children are to be delivered consistent with guidelines published by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) or the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) and procedures and protocols established by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH).

The department recommends that children receive preventive health care at regular intervals and will reimburse providers for well child medical services at the recommended periodicity schedule or more often, as needed. Please refer to the handbooks for the department's Medical Programs for more information on department policy and reimbursement procedures.
