About SBHS

During fiscal year 2009 approximately 218,300 Illinois school children, eligible for medical assistance from School-Based Health Services, received approximately 3.4 million units of direct medical services, including:

Audiology

Medically-related transportation

Occupational therapy

Physical therapy

Speech/language therapy

Through an intergovernmental agreement with the local education agencies, School-Based Health Services was able to claim more than $37 million in Federal Financial Participation (FFP) for the 678 enrolled local education agencies providing direct medical services.

An additional $70 million in FFP was recovered for local education agencies as reimbursement for Medicaid-related administrative expenses associated with providing the direct medical services.

Further information about the School-Based Health Services program is available by E-mail or by calling the SBHS office at 217-782-3953.
