As noted in the December 16,2020 providernotice and February 23, 2021 providernotice, theMedicare-Medicaid Alignment Initiative (MMAI) program will beexpanding statewide effective July 1, 2021.

 

The link below to theMMAI Plans by County identifies which health plans will be available for opt-inenrollment, passive enrollment, or both effective upon initial expansion. Passiveenrollment means that if a customer does not choose a health plan, the customerwill be auto assigned to a health plan. 

 

Customers eligible toenroll in MMAI in the expansion counties may opt-in beginning in June 2021 fora July 1, 2021 effective date. The MMAI passive enrollment implementation forthe statewide expansion will be phased in over multiple cohorts. Enrollmentmaterials for the first passive enrollment cohort will be mailed in June 2021with a September 1, 2021 effective date. Customers currently enrolled in MLTSS underHealthChoice Illinois will not be included in the first or second passiveenrollment cohorts. Additional information regarding ongoing expansionactivities and updates on which plans are available for the second wave ofpassive enrollment in the new MMAI counties will be provided at a later date.

 

Contracting with Participating MMAI Illinois Plans

Providers are encouraged to join theMMAI plan networks as soon as possible to participate in the statewide MMAIprogram. Contracting is important for timely payment and continuity of care. Asa network provider, you will be able to provide care to new and existingMedicare-Medicaid dually eligible customers while benefitting from simplerreimbursement systems and a team-based approach to care. IMPACTenrollment is required for any provider who renders services to Medicaidmembers for Medicaid covered services through the MMAI program.
