Re: | Personal Needs Allowance (PNA) Increase in Skilled Nursing Facilities Effective January 1, 2024 |
This notice informs Nursing Facilities (NF) that effective January 1, 2024, Public Act 103-102 provides for the increase in the Personal Needs Allowance (PNA) from $30 per month to $60 per month for nursing home residents who reside in a nursing facility licensed under the Nursing Home Care Act and who are determined to be eligible for Medical Assistance.
This PNA increase will not be automatically updated in the Application for Benefits Eligibility (ABE) or Medical Electronic Data Interchange (MEDI) portals. The Department of Human Services (DHS) caseworkers will update the resident’s PNA at the time of redetermination (REDE) or case change.
In order to incorporate the increase into the immediate pricing of claims, the facility should submit an income change to reflect the $60 PNA change for each eligible resident by January 31, 2024 for claims submitted in February. Instructions for submitting automatic updates can be found here. If applicable, this update can be incorporated with any changes resulting from Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) increases to a resident’s Social Security Administration (SSA) benefit.
Questions regarding this notice should be directed to the Bureau of Long Term Care at 1-844-528-8444.
