 Electronic Visit Verification (EVV) Requirements for Medicare and Medicaid Alignment Initiative (MMAI) Home Health Care Services (HHCS)

The Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS) wishes to clarify the June 7, 2024, Provider Notice addressing EVV for HHCS for MMAI customers.

HHCS provider agencies are only required to use EVV for services delivered to MMAI enrollees when the services billed are from the HFS Home Health Fee schedule. HHCS codes subject to EVV are also available in the “Services in Scope” section of HHAeXchange’s Illinois Information page.

· HHCS include services provided by a Home Health Aide (HHA), Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Registered Nurse (RN), Physical Therapist (PT), Occupational Therapist (OT), Speech Therapist (ST), Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA), and Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA). HHCS do not include In- Home (Homemaker) services.

Please note that HFS has not yet begun to aggregate EVV data for the Illinois Department of Human Services, Division of Rehabilitation Services (IDHS-DRS) into HHAeXchange. Additionally, the implementation of EVV for the Illinois Department on Aging (IDoA) remains on hold.
