​Re: Confirmation of Coverage of Vaginal Estrogen per Public Act 103-0420

This notice confirms the Department of Healthcare and Family Services’ (HFS) coverage of vaginal estrogen, pursuant to Public Act 103-0420.

The Act requires that if a particular vaginal estrogen product or its therapeutic equivalent version approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is determined to be medically necessary, HFS must cover that item. As HFS already provides coverage for vaginal estrogen products under the fee-for-service (FFS) program and managed care plans, no coverage changes are necessary.
