Provider Notice issued 06/30/10

Medicare Part D Rebates

To:

Long Term Care Providers (ICF, SNF, ICF/DD, SLF)

Date: June 30, 2010
Re: Medicare Part D Rebates

The purpose of this notice is to inform providers the U.S. Department of Treasury will distribute a one-time payment of $250 to certain Medicare Part D beneficiaries who have reached a gap in their coverage and are not receiving Medicare Extra Help. The payments will begin this summer and continue throughout the year as beneficiaries reach the gap period.

Persons who receive Medicaid benefits automatically receive Medicare Extra Help and do not qualify for the $250 rebate. However, it is possible for a person to receive the rebate in the same month that they qualify for Medicaid.

This payment must be reported to the Department of Human Services caseworker as a lump sum using Form HFS 1156 (pdf), LTC Facility Notification, and will cause payment by Healthcare and Family Services to be reduced by the amount received. The payment should be collected by the facility as with regular patient credit amounts to prevent a payment shortage for the month the check is received.

The check is not available to the resident to spend as they choose as in previous rebates or stimulus payments.

Questions regarding this notice may be directed to the Bureau of Long Term Care at 1-217-782-0545.
