Provider Notice Issued 03/25/09

To: Long Term Care Providers (NF, SLF, ICF/DD, and SNF/PED)

Date: March 25, 2009

Re: Medical Electronic Data Interchange (MEDI) Internet Site

The purpose of this notice is to inform all long term care (LTC) facilities of the Medical Electronic Data Interchange (MEDI) system.  The MEDI system is an internet-based system available free of charge to Medicaid-enrolled providers that allows client eligibility to be verified.

At this time the only action an LTC facility can make using the MEDI system is to verify eligibility.  As the system develops, LTC providers will be able to perform functions similar to those currently available through the Recipient Eligibility Verification (REV) system.  A provider does not have to contract through a REV vendor in order to use the MEDI system.  The MEDI and REV systems are separate systems but both allow provider interaction with the Department.

The REV system allows real-time access to Department databases for a fee and is currently fully operational.  Providers can electronically report admission, discharges, deaths, and changes in the level of care and patient income.  Access to the REV system requires a provider to contract with one of two REV vendors who support this system.  The two REV vendors that support LTC provider activities are:

  • Passport Health Communications, Inc. (Nebo Systems): 630-916-8818
  • Medi.com: 888-334-6278    (Not to be confused with the MEDI system)

The MEDI system utilizes federally approved access protocols that allow only approved providers and their authorized staff to access client information.  In order for an LTC facility to enroll they should refer to the MEDI Training Page at:
