Calendar Year 2026 Safety Net Add-on Calculations

In accordance with Public Act 103-0593, the Department has posted the calculations for the calendar year 2026 safety net add-on amounts. This includes both the Tiered Safety Net add-on and the low volume safety net add-on. The tiered add-on targets $50M annually to safety net hospitals with Medicaid Inpatient Utilization Rates (MIUR) above 40%. The low volume add-on is for safety net hospitals with inpatient volumes less than 11,000 inpatient days. These add-on amounts are effective for dates of service December 1, 2026, through December 31, 2026. The calculations and add-on amounts can be accessed at the Department’s Hospital Reimbursement Notifications website linked below, under the section titled ‘Safety Net Add-on Calculations’.
