Update Regarding Fee-for-Service Claims for Licensed Clinical Professional Counselors and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Services

This notice provides an update on Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) fee-for-service (FFS) claims that have been held by the Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS) pending completion of system programming.

By provider notice dated November 30, 2021, HFS announced coverage for certain diagnostic and therapeutic services rendered by LCPCs and LMFTs, consistent with the covered services and reimbursement rates found on the Fee Schedule for Licensed Practitioners of the Healing Arts (LPHAs), and a limited number of community-based mental health services identified in the Handbook for Community-Based Behavioral Services (CBS), Section 208.3, Group A services.

HFS has completed system programming to allow for reimbursement of FFS LCPC and LMFT services with dates of service beginning December 1, 2021. Claims held by HFS have recently been released for processing. HFS will provide timely filing overrides for claims dating back to December 1, 2021, for 180 days from the date of this notice.
