| Re: | Information Regarding the 2024 Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) Increase Effective January 2024 |
This notice informs Long Term Care (LTC) providers that a cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) has been approved for all persons receiving Social Security Administration (SSA) benefits effective January 2024.
Providers will need to update the patient liability amount in the Medical Electronic Data Interchange (MEDI) to reflect the COLA changes, including pension and health insurance premiums. Automatic updates to the patient liability amount can be made if submitted prior to January 31, 2024. Instructions for submitting automatic updates can be found here.
Note: The 360 Notice of Decision that was generated for the customer by the Department of Human Services (DHS) caseworker regarding the COLA update may not reflect the accurate patient liability due to eligibility flexibilities during the public health emergency. The patient credit amount listed in the Healthcare and Family Services (HFS) payment system, which can be viewed via the MEDI LTC Inquiry, will be utilized for pricing claims. If you disagree with the patient credit amount listed in the HFS payment system, an LTC Income Change transaction should be submitted in MEDI. The proper verification documents should be submitted to the appropriate DHS Medical Field Operations (MFO) LTC office via fax, mail, or Application for Benefits Eligibility (ABE) Manage My Case (MMC). For more information on sending documentation, see Provider Notice Issued 04.29.2021| HFS (illinois.gov)
