Provider Notice issued 10/11/2023

Date: October 11, 2023
To: All Medical Assistance Program Providers
Re: Confirmation of Coverage for Reconstructive Services per Public Act 103-00123

This notice confirms the Department of Healthcare and Family Services’ (HFS) coverage of reconstructive services pursuant to Public Act 103-0123.

The Act states that medically necessary reconstructive services that are intended to restore physical appearance shall be covered under the Medical Assistance Program for persons who are otherwise eligible for medical assistance. “Reconstructive services" means treatments performed on structures of the body damaged by trauma to restore physical appearance.

As HFS already provides reconstructive services in these circumstances under the fee-for-service (FFS) program and managed care plans, no coverage changes are necessary.

Questions regarding this notice may be directed to the Bureau of Professional and Ancillary Services at 877-782-5565.
