Re: | Updates to the Illinois Medicaid Comprehensive Assessment of Needs and Strengths (IM+CANS) |
This notice informs providers of the release of an updated version of the Illinois Medicaid Comprehensive Assessment of Needs and Strengths (IM+CANS).
The IM+CANS is the Department’s approved tool required for use by providers delivering the service of Integrated Assessment and Treatment Planning (IATP). The updated version of the IM+CANS was developed based upon feedback and recommendations from the IM+CANS Provider Workgroup.
The updated version of the IM+CANS, along with a document summarizing the changes, can be found on the Healthcare and Family Services’ (HFS) IATP webpage. The updated version of the IM+CANS includes the following:
·IM+CANS Core Form
·IM+CANS Addendum 1 – Modules
·IM+CANS Addendum 2 – Health Risk Assessment
·IM+CANS Addendum 3 – Caregiver Resources and Needs
·IM+CANS Addendum 4 – DCFS Involved Youth
Transition to the Updated IM+CANS
Providers billing for IATP services must transition to using the updated version of the IM+CANS by April 1, 2024. Providers with concerns or challenges related to this implementation timeframe should notify and seek guidance from HFS by emailing HFS.IATP@illinois.gov.
Staff completing the IM+CANS are NOT required to re-certify before using the updated version of the IM+CANS; staff should simply re-certify whenever their existing annual certification time comes.
HFS will be releasing additional materials and information in the coming weeks and months to help providers prepare for the transition to the updated version of the IM+CANS, including an updated IM+CANS Reference Guide and information related to entering data into the IM+CANS Provider Portal.
Informational Webinar
HFS will be hosting an informational webinar for providers to overview the changes to the IM+CANS, to discuss upcoming implementation activities, and to provide an opportunity for providers to ask questions.
Webinar Date and time:
Monday, October 23, 2023
2:00 pm – 3:30 pm Central Time (US & Canada)
