​Re: New Inpatient APR-DRG and Outpatient EAPG Grouper Version Updates  Effective August 1, 2023

This notice informs hospitals of new inpatient and outpatient grouper version updates.  These updates are performed in compliance with 89 Ill. Adm. Code Sections 148.140 and 149.100.

Effective with inpatient discharge dates beginning August 1, 2023, the Department will utilize Grouper Version 40 of the 3M All Patient Refined Diagnosis Related Group (APR-DRG) payment system. 

Effective with outpatient dates of service beginning August 1, 2023, the Department will utilize Grouper Version 3.18 of the Enhanced Ambulatory Patient Groups (EAPG) payment system.

A notable change within the payment methodology is the addition of EAPG 2006 to the list of EAPGs that qualify for the High-Cost Device Add-On payment.  

New inpatient and outpatient calculators containing the new rates will be posted to the Department’s website in the near future.
