Use our Ready to Renew Messaging Toolkit in your daily interactions with Medicaid customers and in all available communications channels, repeatedly, to prevent your Medicaid customers from losing coverage.

Background: Resuming Medicaid renewals

Medicaid customers have received continuous healthcare coverage since the Covid-19 pandemic began. However, Congress has ended the pause on annual eligibility verifications for Medicaid, known as redeterminations, or simply called renewals.

Timing

It is important to know that every customer’s renewal date is different. The first notices will arrive in early May for people whose renewal is due June 1, but we will send renewal notices throughout the year for others on a rolling basis. Notices will arrive at the start of each month and are due by the 1st of the following month.

Medicaid customers should check their individual due date by clicking Manage My Case at abe.illinois.gov and creating or logging into their account. Once they know their individual due date, they should watch their mail as their renewal month approaches. If they do not respond to their renewal notice, they could lose their Medicaid benefits.

What you can do: Use the Ready to Renew messaging toolkit

We need your help to ensure Medicaid customers stay connected to coverage. We urge you to use our Ready to Renew Messaging Toolkit in your daily interactions with Medicaid customers and in all available communications channels, repeatedly, to prevent your Medicaid customers from losing coverage.

Please use your staff and look for ways to share our materials and key messages with customers and patients. Opportunities are available at multiple points, such as at check-in, during appointments, at check-out, as well as appointment reminders. Consider integrating the use of MEDI in your multiple points of interaction to help your patients learn about their renewal date. Tell customers to click “Manage My Case” at abe.illinois.gov to log in or create an account to verify their address, find their renewal due date, and complete their renewal when it is due.

Acknowledgment

This renewal strategy and messaging is based on feedback from a diverse stakeholder group. We would especially like to thank State Health and Value Strategies, the National Association of Medicaid Directors, GMMB, and members of the Public Education Subcommittee of the Illinois Medicaid Advisory Committee for their valuable input.
