Re:      Billing T1040 for Behavioral Health Encounters - Effective Date Extension to February 1, 2023

This notice informs Encounter Rate Clinics (ERCs), Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), and Rural Health Clinics (RHCs) of an effective date extension for billing procedure code T1040 for behavioral health encounters. This applies to claims billed under Medicaid fee-for-service (FFS) and HealthChoice Illinois (HCI) managed care organization (MCO) plans.

The provider notice dated November 1, 2022, identified the effective date as December 1, 2022. To allow providers additional time for billing system updates, the effective date has been changed to February 1, 2023.

All other information in the November 1, 2022, provider notice remains the same. Questions regarding this notice may be directed to the Bureau of Professional and Ancillary Services at 877-782-5565 for FFS claims, or the applicable HCI MCO plan.
