Dental Encounters

 

Date:  August 1, 2017

To:     Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), Encounter Rate Clinics (ERCs) and Rural Health Clinics (RHCs)

 

Re:     Dental Encounters

 

 

This notice is to remind enrolled FQHCs, ERCs and RHCs that a dental encounter is a face-to-face visit with a dentist as defined in the Handbook for Providers of Encounter Clinic Services Section 210.1.

Other qualified professionals may provide dental services under the supervision or direction of a dentist if they are authorized to do so within their scope of practice under Illinois law. However, such services are not billable as a dental encounter unless the patient has a face-to-face encounter with the dentist during the course of the visit on that particular day.

Dental encounter claims must be submitted to the Department’s dental contractor, DentaQuest. Refer to the Dental Office Reference Manual for billing information.
