Re:        Change in Billing for Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) and Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice (IDJJ) Inmates

This notice outlines changes in billing procedures for the ground or air transport of inmates of the IDOC and IDJJ from one inpatient hospital to another inpatient hospital.  Recent updates to the agencies’ contracts with their medical vendor have prompted the billing change for these services.

Effective with dates of service on and after May 16, 2011, providers must bill HFS directly for the ground or air transportation of inmates of the IDOC and IDJJ from one inpatient hospital to another inpatient hospital due to medical necessity or at the request of IDOC or IDJJ.

Dates of service prior to May 16, 2011 should be billed to the IDOC or IDJJ medical vendor.

Questions regarding this notice may be directed to the Bureau of Comprehensive Health Services at 1-877-782-5565, Billing Questions, Option #3, and then Option #3.
