Re: Launch of Electronic Health Record Provider Incentive Payment (EHR/PIP) Program
The Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH Act) is part of the American Re-Investment and Recovery Act of 2009. Section 4210 of this act established an Electronic Health Record (EHR) Provider Incentive Payment (PIP) program, which allows Medicaid to pay an incentive to Eligible Professionals (EPs) that adopt, implement, and meaningfully use certified EHR technology.
The Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS) will launch the HFS EHR PIP program, effective September 5, 2011, at which time providers will be able to register for the incentive payment at the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Web site: Medicare & Medicaid EHR Incentive Program Registration and Attestation System Web site Once providers have registered with federal CMS, they will be required to attest to meeting the program requirements via the HFS Medical Electronic Data Interchange (MEDI) Web site. It is anticipated that the MEDI attestation application will be available by mid-November 2011. Initial incentive payments will be made by February 1, 2012.
