Re: Integrated Care Program

A new program that promotes your patients' health and wellness is coming! This new program is called the Integrated Care Program (ICP). The Department of Healthcare and Family Services would like to provide you with an update on the status of ICP. At this time, the department is in the final stages of implementation, and a contract will soon be in place with the Health Maintenance Organizations, Aetna Better Health and IlliniCare Health Plan (Centene).

The ICP serves approximately 40,000 seniors and adults with disabilities in the counties of DuPage, Kane, Kankakee, Lake, Will and Suburban Cook who are eligible for Medicaid but are not eligible for Medicare. This population is subject to mandatory enrollment in ICP with the first enrollments effective April 1, 2011. The ICP program is the first step in implementing House Bill 5420, which was passed almost unanimously by the Illinois Legislature last month, which will require the department to place more than a million recipients into managed care in the near future. Therefore, HFS encourages providers serving the target population to work with Aetna and IlliniCare so that your patients can continue to receive the healthcare services you are providing and will not have to change providers.

Being a provider with ICP means:

  • You are providing continuity of care for the most at-risk Medicaid clients; and
  • MCOs payments may come sooner than HFS payments.

The only way to ensure payment for patients enrolled in ICP is to contract with the health plans.

HFS thanks you for your continued service to our most vulnerable population and urges you to participate in ICP. To get more information about the ICP read Governor Quinn's press release on the Integrated Care Delivery System; or to sign up with one or both of the plans, contact:
