Medicare Part D Rebates – Revision of Earlier Notice

To:

Long Term Care Providers (ICF, SNF, ICF/DD, SLF)

Date: August 23, 2010
Re: Medicare Part D Rebates – Revision of Earlier Notice

The purpose of this notice is to retract the statement in an earlier notice dated June 30, 2010, that the U.S. Department of Treasury distribution of a one-time payment of $250 to certain Medicare Part D beneficiaries would not be exempt income.

The federal Centers for Medicare/Medicaid Services now indicate that payment received under this rebate would be available to the resident to spend as they wish in the month of receipt. Any portion not spent during the month of receipt would be considered an asset in the following month.

Persons who receive Medicaid benefits automatically receive Medicare Extra Help and do not qualify for the $250 rebate. However, it is possible for a person to receive the rebate in the same month that they qualify for Medicaid.

Questions regarding this notice may be directed to the Bureau of Long Term Care at 1-217-782-0545.
