Psychiatric Services

As a result of a recent administrative rule change, effective with dates of service on or after, October 1, 2009, the department will cover psychiatric services, CPT Code Range 90801 through 90899, excluding Group Psychotherapy, when rendered by Advanced Practice Nurses (APNs). The APN must have and maintain a current collaborative or written practice agreement with a collaborating physician or practitioner under whom the APN will be practicing, as set forth in the Nurse Practice Act. The APN must also hold a current certification in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing as set forth in 68 Ill. Adm. Code 1305, Appendix A. This certification and the HFS 3411C must be submitted to the department’s Provider Participation Unit and should be mailed to:

Effective with dates of service on or after January 1, 2010, claims for psychiatric services rendered by APNs will reject if the Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing certification is not on file with the department. Providers will receive error code G98- Psychiatric Residency Not on File.
