Re: One-Time Economic Recovery Payment

The purpose of this notice is to inform providers that the U.S. Department of Treasury will distribute a one-time payment of $250 to individuals who receive certain types of federal benefits. The payments are provided under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009, and will be distributed beginning May 2009.

Payments made under this Act will be exempt in the month of receipt and nine months thereafter from consideration for purposes of eligibility for medical assistance. The money is to be available for the resident to spend as they wish.

Any amount remaining after nine months will be considered an asset and will be applied toward the $2,000 asset limit. If any amount remaining from the refund after nine months, plus the resident's account, total $1,800 or more, the facility must notify the resident pursuant to 89 Illinois Administrative Code 140.518(g).
