Revision to Automated Laboratory Services Change

This notice supercedes the September 9, 2008, Informational Notice regarding Change in Reimbursement for Automated Laboratory Services. The department will not eliminate payment for the professional component on automated laboratory services. In lieu of the changes announced September 9, 2008, the department will make the following rate adjustments.

After discussion with several interested parties, effective with dates of service October 1, 2008, and after, the department will reduce its base rate for automated lab services within the CPT Code Series 80000 through 85999 (automated laboratory services) by 25%; rather than eliminating the professional component. This rate recognizes the services of pathologists in providing automated lab services.

This change is necessary as a part of the state’s ongoing budget reduction measures and to better align the methodology for automated services with other states’ programs. The department’s physician fee schedule will be updated to reflect the new rates for automated lab services.
