The purpose of this notice is to advise physicians that the department’s fee schedule has been updated to reflect reimbursement for subsequent hospital care for healthy newborns whose mother is unable to be discharged effective September 1, 2007. 

The initial healthy newborn visit continues to be paid under procedure code 99431.  The healthy newborn subsequent hospital visits are billable under procedure code 99433.  Subsequent visits to newborns that develop complications during the hospital stay must be billed using the subsequent hospital care codes or neonatal/pediatric critical care codes.
