Rate Increase for Dispensing of Eyeglasses

Re:​ Rate Increase for Dispensing of Eyeglasses​

The department is pleased to announce an increase in its reimbursement to all providers who dispense eyeglasses.

The department has a long-standing and cost-effective program with the Illinois Department of Corrections, Illinois Correctional Industries (ICI), to manufacture eyeglasses at its laboratory located in Dixon, Illinois. Patients select frames from a display board provided by ICI. Providers submit the orders for eyeglasses to the department for forwarding to ICI for fabrication of the eyeglasses. ICI then mails the eyeglasses directly to the provider’s office for dispensing. ICI is reimbursed for the eyeglasses and the provider is reimbursed for dispensing the eyeglasses.

To encourage additional participation in the ICI program, the department is increasing the rate paid for dispensing eyeglasses. The dispensing fee, CPT code 92340, will be increased from $8.30 to $30.09. This rate increase is effective for dates of service on and after March 1, 2007. All other optometric program policies and rates remain the same.
