MDS Training

To: Nursing Facility Providers
Date: March 7, 2006
Re: MDS Training

The Department of Healthcare and Family Services, in conjunction with the Illinois Department of Public Health and the three major long term care associations, is sponsoring training for nursing facility staff to promote the submission of accurate MDS data and to improve quality of resident care. You are strongly encouraged to attend or send staff to these training opportunities, entitled “Moving From Assessment to Care.” It is critical that providers improve the quality of MDS data submission during the hold harmless period preceding full implementation of an MDS-based rate reimbursement on July 1, 2006. Although legislation introduced in the General Assembly would extend implementation of the MDS-based rate system to October 1, 2006, the time period utilized to set the rate begins April 1, 2006. Inaccurate MDS data can cause a facility to receive rates that do not reflect resident care needs.

This training will be conducted by Myers and Stauffer LC, a well-known and respected consulting firm that provides expert training to health care facilities on the MDS and other related healthcare issues. MDS training sessions will be provided at multiple sites during calendar year 2006, including March 13 in Peoria, March 14 in Lisle, March 15 in Lincolnwood, March 16 in Oak Lawn, March 29 in Mt. Vernon and March 30 in Decatur.
