Re: DME Handbook Update 

In an informational notice issued by the department November 30, 2004, providers were informed that effective January 1, 2005, the department will provide for the purchase of durable medical equipment used for the purpose of respiratory care. Durable medical equipment that requires ongoing maintenance and is used in the delivery of oxygen and respiratory care services (ventilators/oxygen concentrators) will continue to be reimbursed on a rental basis only. In addition to these changes, the bulletin includes updates regarding the prior approval telephone number and fax machine information.

The changes discussed above have been added to the DME handbook and are available on the department’s Web site at:

The revised pages are dated January 2005. The affected items are designated by “=” signs to the left. This Provider Bulletin lists the pages to be removed and replaced.
