Patient Status Codes

The department will continue to accept Patient Status Code 11 - "Discharged/transferred to another category of service" for admissions occurring through March 31, 2004. The National Uniform Billing Committee (NUBC) has modified the definition and approved the use of Patient Status Code 02 - "Discharged/transferred to a short term general hospital for inpatient care" in place of Patient Status Code 11. This definition change will be identified in a forthcoming

UB-92 for Illinois manual update.

Following are billing changes associated with patient status codes effective with admissions on and after April 1, 2004:

  • Patient Status Code 02 will replace Patient Status Code 11.

  • Providers must bill using Patient Status Code 62 when a patient is "Discharged/transferred to an inpatient rehabilitation facility including rehabilitation distinct part units of a hospital."

  • Providers must bill using Patient Status Code 65 when a patient is "Discharged/transferred to a psychiatric hospital or psychiatric distinct part unit of a hospital."
