Elimination of State Generated Procedure Codes - HIPAA Implementation

The department is in the process of converting state generated procedure codes to the appropriate Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) or Health Care Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) codes. This is being done to prepare for compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

Beginning with dates of service April 1, 2004, and after, the department will close the state generated procedure codes. Claims received with a state generated procedure code for dates of service on or after April 1, 2004, will be rejected.

Attached to this notice is a listing of the codes that will be closed April 1, 2004. For dates of service after April 1, 2004, providers must submit the appropriate CPT procedure code for the service.
