PDL Update to Long-Acting Insulins

This notice informs providers of an update involving long-acting insulins on the Illinois Medicaid Preferred Drug List (PDL).

The manufacturer has confirmed an intermittent supply shortage of Lantus SoloStar pens. Currently, both the Lantus SoloStar pen, and the Lantus vial are preferred long-acting insulin products on the PDL. In response to the shortage, the Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS) has moved the biosimilar insulin glargine-yfgn to preferred status as of Friday, July 24, 2026. This is a temporary change. Insulin glargine-yfgn will remain in preferred status until the Lantus SoloStar pen shortage is resolved. This shortage does not affect the availability of the Lantus vial.

This change will apply to Fee-For-Service (FFS) and Managed Care Organizations (MCOs).
