Proteomic Blood Test

July 21, 2026

On 08/20/2021, the Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS) published a Provider Notice confirming the coverage of comprehensive biomarker testing. Pursuant to Public Act 104-0470, Section 5-54, coverage includes prescribed proteomic blood testing to identify and manage the risk of spontaneous preterm birth in pregnant persons. This coverage applies to both the Medicaid fee-for-service (FFS) program and HealthChoice Illinois managed care organizations (MCOs).

HFS already provides coverage for these services. Accordingly, no changes to existing coverage or reimbursement policy are required.

Questions regarding this notice may be directed to the Bureau of Professional and Ancillary Services at 877-782-5565, or the applicable MCO.
