The pre-admission screen is a required screen which assesses the Level of Care functional needs of an individual to determine if placement in the Supportive Living Program (SLP) is appropriate.  This notice is to remind SLPs that a screening should only be requested when the potential resident is expected to move in within 90 days. The Department on Aging has provided information that many SLPs are submitting screening requests prematurely, resulting in residents needing to be re-screened, sometimes on multiple occasions. This creates unnecessary delays and leads to repetitive work being completed in error. Additionally, it adds a burden to families, requiring family members to take time off work and be present for screenings that ultimately must be repeated.

This requirement also applies to individuals on a waitlist. If the expected wait time exceeds three months (90 days), a screening should not be conducted prior to the individual being placed on the waitlist.
