Illinois Medicaid-Certified Doulas |
This notice informs hospitals that doulas must be allowed in birthing rooms for Medicaid customers and not count them against support person quota.
Pursuant to Public Act 104-0009 (305 ILCS 5/5-18.6), in recognizing the importance that Medicaid certified doulas provide in the support and advocacy for pregnant persons, all hospitals with licensed obstetric beds and birthing centers shall adopt and maintain written policies and procedures.
The written policy must permit a customer enrolled in the Medical Assistance Program to have an Illinois Medicaid certified and enrolled doula of their choice accompany the customer within the facility's premises for the purposes of providing support before, during, and after labor and childbirth.
Questions regarding this notice may be directed to the Bureau of Professional and Ancillary Services at 877-782-5565, or the applicable MCO.
